soap-boxI just would like to comment on what a bad job we Christians (myself included) have done here in America.  I am talking with my sister-in-law about the Bible.  She was born in America and grew up here in America and she knows nothing about the Bible.  I mean is it not sad that a country that was founded because people wanted religous freedom from the King of England have let our country slip so far down that we have so many thousands of people that barely know who Jesus is let alone what he did.

Also, my sister-in-law finds Creation very difficult to believe because evolution was drilled into her head in school.   WAKE UP PEOPLE!  We are so not doing our jobs here, not at all.  So get your booty out of your comfort zone and start praying and then start talking and make sure you know what you are talking about (Bible study).  I am chastising myself as well as all of you, but this is America.  I mean there is a televangelist on at least 5 channels.  You would think that a person could know something about God, but really “they” have done a great job of taking God out of everything so you actually have to search to find him because the only mention of him that you would hear in schools is probably the mention of His name in vein.

There is my soapbox for the day.  Feel free to join me or knock me off – either way.

Picture from here.

On our way to church today we were on the interstate and we were sideswiped by a Saturn SUV with Ohio license plates.  Then the SUV just took off and did NOT stop.  We were okay but the side of our car was dinged up.  Well, I memorized the license plate and called the state police.  They took a police report but the license plate didn’t match any in the system.  But the point to the story is that it could have been much worse and I am thankful that we were all safe!

And on another note, I have been praying for my brother (who is 2 years younger than me) for years now because I knew he was a Christian but he was not living like it.  We had all been praying and hoping.  I always thought it would take an incredible act of God to get him to change.  Well, God is alive and well because my brother is now completely changing his life.  We have never seen him the way he is now.  He is going to church faithfully – I am talking Sunday morning, Sunday night and Wednesday night.  He is reading his Bible and praying.  He is sharing his experience with others.  He has stopped doing all of the things he was previously doing that were not good to do.  It is so unbelievable to watch.  My faith has been strengthened.   Through all of this I have had the opportunity to witness to his wife who is not a Christian.  She is watching my brother go through all of these changes and she is just not sure what to do.  Please pray for both of them when you get a chance because it is really wonderful to watch what God is doing in their lives.

My cousin wrote a wonderful poem for her sister.  You can see it here.  I thought I would try my hand at poetry.  Walt Whitman I am not.   But here it goes anyway:

In the beginning it was just us two.

Then we had our little boy and

oh, how he brought us so much joy.

Then a little girl joined our crew

and her eyes were very blue.

Now its time to announce another,

sounds like they might have a brother.

(or a sister – but that didn’t rhyme)

(I know I’m suppose to be on a break).  People that know me know that I used to be a HUGE political junkie.  I have lost a little of that in recent years.  Today, I heard a wonderful speech on Laura Ingram that was given in 1976.  It was Ronald Reagan’s concession speech for the Republican Primary.  What he says in that speech is so applicable to today.  I must confess that I love Ronald Reagan.  I am that way due to my beloved grandfather.  I wanted to name my daughter Reagan (true story, Heidi) after Ronald Reagan, but my husband wasn’t too sure.  I know Ronald Reagan wasn’t perfect.  No human being is, but I miss him.  I hope there is someone like him out there waiting in the wings for the right time.  I do feel I should say that I don’t  put my hope in a person nor in a politician.  I put my hope and my trust in Jesus Christ.  He is in control no matter who runs what county.  That is why I have peace today.  I don’t know what direction this country is going to take, but I know my God does not change.  He is in control.

John 14:27:

“Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.

John 16:33:

“These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.”

I just wanted to let you know that I am going to be taking a break from blogging for a while.  I still plan on posting my menus and some recipes as well.  I forgot to say that I will still be blogging at Today’s Daily Dose so head over there and check it out.  Thanks for visiting and hopefully I will be doing more in the New Year.  I hope to have some new and different ideas by then as well.
